After 5 years of hard training he graded in London aged 20 to 1st Dan (Shodan) by a strict B.K.A. grading panel of Clayton Murrain, Dickie Wu, Mick Dinsdale & Greg Wallace. Later that year representing Tera Karate – Kai at U21 team event BKA vs Welsh Karate Federation & then training under Sensei Clayton Murrain 4th Dan at Evesham Karate Club & also Sensei Tekamizawa 6th Dan.
After only 18 months he graded to 2nd Dan (Nidan) in 1980 by Clayton Murrain & Josh Johnson under the newly formed A.M.A.A. Karate Association. Representing the A.M.A.A.England team in Hamburg Germany for the European WAKO event 1981 & becoming the A.M.A.A. All England Senior Kata Champion in 1982.
